“Daniel’s technical expertise carried our three-day hybrid zoom training over the finish line. Everything ran flawlessly because he was behind the console. His new portfolio site shows exactly why we rely on him. He’s skilled, organized, and genuinely cares about the people and the mission. We would work with him again in a heartbeat.”

August Project – Event Support & Technical Direction

In August, I partnered again with A New Way of Life (ANWOL) to provide full live-sound engineering and technical support for one of their major community events. This afternoon brought together formerly incarcerated women, advocates, donors, and community partners. The program blended spoken-word testimonies, formal presentations, and multimedia elements, all of which required careful planning to ensure the event remained both emotionally resonant and technically seamless.

My Role: Ensuring the Mission Could Be Heard Clearly

As the lead live-sound engineer, I was responsible for designing, installing, and operating an audio system that amplified all voices cleanly and professionally. This meant:

  • Running multi-mic setups, including wireless lavalier and handheld microphones
  • Managing feedback-sensitive spaces, adjusting EQ, and gain staging in real time
  • Mixing live music cues and pre-recorded audio from client-supplied devices
  • Coordinating with ANWOL staff to time speaker transitions and video playback
  • Providing technical troubleshooting and redundancy planning beforehand

Because ANWOL serves an audience deeply invested in storytelling, clarity was essential; the sound system had to convey volume and presence so that online listeners could feel connected to the people onstage.

Behind the Scenes: Preparation & Professionalism

In the days leading up to the event, I performed:

  • A complete site survey to evaluate acoustics, outlet access, and speaker placement
  • Equipment prep, including backup cabling, power distribution, and spares
  • A pre-event “tech rehearsal” with ANWOL’s program team
  • Collaboration with the livestream/visuals team to sync cues

My role was to deliver not only technical reliability but also peace of mind, so ANWOL’s staff could focus on hospitality and mission rather than logistics and tech-speak.

Client Outcome

The event concluded without any audio interruptions. Staff reported that this was “the smoothest the sound has ever been,” and attendees mentioned how powerful it was to hear each story clearly.

By the end of the program, ANWOL’s leadership expressed interest in continuing to work together on future events, citing the adaptability and sensitivity I brought to the mission's annual program.
