The Kingsley–Goodman–Chavez News Bulletin was a team-produced radio segment created in PCC’s TV & Radio production course. The goal is to deliver a balanced five-minute local newscast that mirrors a professional radio format, featuring opening headlines, alternating anchors, and a blend of national, local, and entertainment stories.
Marie Kingsley opened, then quickly handed off to Danny Chavez with a national technology brief about SpaceX’s Starlink satellite launches, spotlighting the growing role of private space companies in global communications.
Marie Kingsley reported on California’s voter registration deadlines, emphasizing the importance of civic awareness on campus.
Rosanna Goodman wrapped up with a light community feature on Hallmark film shoots in Pasadena, followed by a construction update on the U-Building renovation project at PCC — a story close to students who had watched that structure evolve for years.
Our collaborative format alternated between hard news and human interest, giving listeners the variety of a true local newscast. The segment was entirely scripted and performed live with pre-recorded segments, and recorded in one take to simulate a live broadcast.
Reflection:
Producing this newscast taught me that good radio news requires rhythm — not just between stories, but between voices. Working with Marie and Rosanna helped me refine pacing, handoffs, and tone. The project also reminded me that community storytelling matters as much as national headlines.
